Today we had the pleasure of presenting at the YouthMade Festival.
After seeing the amazing projects happening across the world, I realized that we have so much to work towards to create projects like those shared from schools around the world. |

Quinn Craugh, our principal, was willing to provide the money to start the after-school club while we waited for the grant money. Our first steps were to find out more information from the VAHS team as well as create a survey for students. After only two weeks which have included three 7th grade lunch periods and two after-school groups, 38 students from 6th through 8th grade of all backgrounds have come together to play.
7th graders learned about the Hummingbird robotics kit with servos, sensors, lights, and more to create a final mini golf course for their 3rd grade partners.

Using the Ciena Solutions Framework, designers prepared the first section of ACT to share with either Kelsey or Matt of CodeJoy in a short zoom session with each team. With their younger partner, each design team shared their initial ideas with Matt and Kelsey in amazing conversations that pushed designers to think about other solutions as well as deeper about their own idea.
Thankful to have our designers highlighted for their ideas and projects. It means a lot to be recognized with all of these schools worldwide. 2024 Ciena Solutions Award WinnersBackground Insight
Engaging in Understanding
What are actions that you can take to help achieve the Global Goals? How can technology play a part in your plan.
Next Steps
Designers will engage in an empathy interview to ground their design work in a real world community need.
Here is a little more information about our new partnership to create SOMS news with FACTv. This season will be wrapping up with our second episode which should be debuting soon.

It was at this point that I learned about all of the amazing resources that are available on the Ciena Solutions Challenge website after introducing the Global Goals and several design activities - blog post. Under Teacher Resources on the Ciena Solutions Challenge website, there is a wealth of resources in English, Spanish, and French. I found the resources easy to access and they gave me the opportunity to differentiate for different projects that designers felt best met their problem while still using the same format for all of my designers. Designers also shared their new found coding skills with the teleporting duck activity as a preview of next week's Treasure Hunt with the Micro:bit.
Lastly designers had time to explore and design in Challenge Central of Makers Empire.
